In an ever-growing globalised workplace, it is essential that future designers develop skills to facilitate international communication to tackle complex problems and clients from different countries and cultures. in order to prepare future graduates for the collaborative opportunities presented by the international design industry, these essential skills should be emphasised and instigated within the teaching and learning at higher education.
International Design Studio (IDS), therefore, focuses on supporting international thinking through project-based learning activities using the principle of Collaborative online International Learning (COIL). Delivered within a virtual setting, the IDS facilitates (COIL) learning spaces with students from partnered institutions around the world; the activities provide a vibrant international experience to the student cohort, promoting the reciprocal exchange of intellectual knowledge and design culture
To date the International Design studio has facilitated the international collaboration of over 400 undergraduate design students
